Can going for a walk to the shop count as exercise?

Yes, walking is always good for health.

Absolutely! Going for a walk is an excellent form of exercise. You might be surprised to learn that stretching or yoga is another excellent form of exercise and you don't have to leave the house or have any fancy equipment. You can find some great beginner yoga poses at www.yoga.com.
